Today, I want to share with you my experience with Bench press training with elastic bands. After previously telling you about the Slingshot, I decided to delve into the elastic bands or resistance bands, which I personally find more beneficial for my workouts.
The elastic bands not only improve the middle and end of the bench press stroke but also add an element of continuous resistance that fascinates me.
So why not explore together how these “cachibachas”, as I like to call them, can transform our training?
Fundamentals of Elastic Band Training
The elastic bands are amazing. Why?
Because they provide continuous tension throughout the entire bench press stroke, from when the bar touches the chest until the arms are fully extended.

This is different from what we experience with free weights, where the tension varies. With resistance bands, every repetition feels different, and that, my friends, completely changes the game.

Comparison of rubber bands with the Slingshot
Now, comparing the rubber bands to the Slingshot, there are key differences.
With the Slingshot, when you reach the bottom, almost all the weight is supported by the elastic band on your chest, and from there, the bar shoots upward. But with the bands, you keep the tension all the way through.
Personally, I find that the elastic straps allow for more natural movement and do not restrict my posture as much as the Slingshot does.

Practical implementation of rubber bands in training.
It’s simple: I place the elastic band under the bench and hook them to the bar. The good thing is that this also serves as a stopper for the discs.
For example, I use the red rubber and black rubber together to vary the tension.
I will show you how to calculate the tension provided by the bands in kilos, which is super useful to adjust your routine.
Benefits and Considerations of Resistance Band Training
The benefits are clear: improvements in speed and explosiveness, and continuous work even in the final phases of lifting. But be careful, it is important to place them correctly so as not to alter the trajectory of the movement.

Personally, I love how the exercise bands allow me to work with higher weights, especially in the final phase of the lift.
Conclusion:
I hope this look at strength training with elastic bands has been helpful.
Remember, the key is to experiment and find what works best for your training style.
Personally, I have loved integrating the training rubbers into my routine, and I’m sure they could be a great addition for you as well.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):
- How do elastic bands affect the bench press?
- They increase tension throughout the run, which improves strength and explosiveness.
- How does training with rubber bands differ from using Slingshot?
- The bands provide more uniform tension and allow for more natural movement.
- Can resistance bands be used by beginners in bodybuilding?
- Definitely, although I recommend starting with lower tensions to get used to the movement.
