Lullax Iron Square: Is the 102 kg dumbbell the ultimate beast?

Table of Contents

I’ve been looking forward to having this around, guys! Welcome to an in-depth review of what I call “the beast of dumbbells”. We’re talking about the Lullax Iron Square Dumbbell, a 102 kg adjustable dumbbell that we’ve been testing in the Bilbo Cave.

If you know me, you know that I like material that withstands war, and this is 100% pure iron. No plastic mechanisms that break on the third hit. Here we are going to see if it really makes sense to move such weight and why this modular system can be the best investment for your home gym.

More than a dumbbell: The pure iron modular system

At first glance, the Iron Square looks like a traditional old-school dumbbell, but there’s a trick to it. It’s part of a range where discs take center stage. With the same set of discs you can assemble a pair of dumbbells, a kettlebell, a straight bar or a Z-bar.

A good choice to buy for your home gym if you’re looking for strength and versatility. if you are looking for strength and versatility.

Farewell to automatic mechanisms: Why solid iron is timeless

I’m going to be honest with you: at first, when I talked to the people at Lullax, I told them: “Jeez, with automatics that are so comfortable, why go back to iron? But my friend, after holding them in your hand, the feeling changes. In my case, I was looking for something that would transmit total security, and solid iron has no rival.

There are no dancing parts and no gears to jam. It is a compact block. Also, being solid iron, the size is ridiculously small. Compared to other weights, these are much more compact because they don’t need to leave room for internal mechanisms. If you’re looking to move real pounds in a small space, the square design(Iron Square) is king.

Extreme Versatility: From Dumbbell to Kettlebell to Bars

What blew my mind the most is the ecosystem. It has three types of axes:

  1. Short shaft: For weights from 4 kg to 36 kg.
  2. Medium axle: From 36 kg to 75 kg.
  3. Long axis: To reach the insanity of 102 kg.

Being able to have a 70+ kg Kettlebell with the same discs you use for Bench presses is a brutal space and money saver.

Analysis of the loading system: Safe and smooth without complications

Many of you ask me if it is a nuisance to keep changing discs. Well, when I was mounting them several times for different exercises, I realized that they have hit the nail on the head with the design. It is not the typical eternal thread that you spend half an hour turning.

The system works with a nut that goes super smooth. There is no need to unscrew it completely to remove the discs. You just turn it a couple of turns, leave some space, and the disc comes out laterally.

Is it safe? Absolutely. The discs have screws that fit into specific holes in the axle. The moment you tighten the thread (which, by the way, has a rubber so that the fit is perfect and nothing moves), the disc is mechanically locked. They do not sound, do not dance and do not loosen. It is the logical evolution of the weights of all life.

My honest recommendation: which Iron Square kit to actually buy?

This is where I want to give you some friendly advice. Buying the 102kg set of two dumbbells seems, frankly, a bit unconscionable to most people. You would have 204 kg in discs taking up space.

I, for my current training, would choose the 52 kg kit. Why?

  • With the 52 kg set you have plenty for heavy dumbbells.
  • If you mount those same discs on the straight bar, you’re going to over 100 kg or 108 kg.
  • It is expandable. If tomorrow you’re a little bit of an ox and you need more, you buy the extra disc pack and that’s it.

If you’re just starting out or are at an intermediate level, the 36 kg kit is a cinnamon. It allows you to mount a 60+ kg barbell and you have two serious dumbbells to hit the rower or press.

The BilboTeam Challenge: Who dares to reach 102 kg?

You already know that in chest I have come to move the 80-odd kilos. But I tell you truly that 102 kg in one hand is a real barbarity. It is very deceiving because, being so compact, it seems that they weigh less than they say, but the iron does not lie.

For people who do heavy rowing, this dumbbell is the glory. And here I throw down the gauntlet: anyone who wants to come to the Bilbo Cave to try to lift the 102 kg dumbbell off the ground, without straps and pure grip strength, is invited. If you know any strength animal who can handle it, tell them to write me on Instagram. We’ll make a video, have a few laughs and see if you can really tame this beast.
